Saturday, May 2 - May 8, 2015

Never once have I heard anyone in Joshua Tree say, “There’s nothing to do around here.” Devoted as people are to the quiet and solitude of desert life, what I keep hearing is, “I’ve never been so social in my entire life.” There’s so much to do here, and so many great people to do things with.

If you are over 18 and looking for great cardio and camaraderie, The Mojave Rattleskaters, women’s full contact roller derby, are recruiting skaters, refs and non-skating officials (NSOs). No experience necessary. Practices are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Enquire at www.mojaverattleskaters.com.

If movies are your thing, the Joshua Tree International Film Festival needs volunteers. If you can move, fold or hang stuff, make phone calls, or collect tickets, leave a message at tinyurl.com/hdstar-jtiff.

Honey, I’m home! There are so many bees out that when the mesquite tree bloomed in our yard bees just moved right into an empty hive we had nearby! If you have an unwanted swarm and need a bee rescue and removal, contact Charla and Michael Shamhart of High Desert Beekeeping at 760-401-0689. They do not charge for removals. They also mentor beekeepers. Visit their site at tinyurl.com/hdstar-bees.

Download the entry form and prospectus for the Joshua Tree Art Gallery June invitational at www.JoshuaTreeArtGallery.com. The theme is climate change. Everyone is invited to submit.

The summer issue of The Desert Oracle is hot off the presses and only $3.95 an issue or $15 a year at www.desertoracle.com.  Congratulations to Editor Ken Layne and his wife Laura Crane, former residents who are returning to Joshua Tree. The Desert Oracle will now be published from its spiritual home!
