May 23 is World Tortoise Day. The Joshua Basin Water District has live tortoises for viewing at their booth at the Farmer’s Market in Joshua Tree every Saturday in May.

The Hi-Desert Medical Center hosts a free Veteran’s Disability Clinic today, assisting veterans in establishing their disability claims. The Joshua Treenial continues today with local artist Diane Best screening three moving image works accompanied by Lucio Menegon (a.k.a. Reverend Screaming Fingers), the etheral Artemis, and Wonder Valley's own The Renderers. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Palms, 83131 Amboy Road in Wonder Valley. A $10 donation is suggested.


Joshua Tree's High Desert Test Sites hosts Carmen Argote's exhibition, A Vast Furniture, with an opening reception, potluck and overnight campout at the Iron Age Road Parcel, beginning at 6:00 pm. Joshua Treenial continues Sunday. Storyteller Y-Ping and Message in the Sky collaborate on a "tapestry of hopes and dreams in America's frontier." Meet at the Joshua Tree Campground at 2601 Sunfair Road at 8:30 p.m. There is a $10 suggested donation.

Sing for Nepal at the Beatnik Lounge at 5:00 p.m. 61597 Twentynine Palms Highway, Joshua Tree. A hat will be passed to benefit the peoples of Nepal.


WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2015

Take a friend to Taco Wednesday at the VFW, 6402 Veterans Way. They serve a full menu, with everything from a taco salad to a full plate for less than $5.00. 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
